Duo charged with assaulting cops, resisting arrest

Two persons were yesterday charged with assaulting police officers, resisting arrest and behaving disorderly in public.

The charges were read separately to Rebecca Sealy and Michael McAndrew, who appeared before Georgetown Magistrate Leron Daly.

It was alleged that on March 28, 2022, at Callender Street, Albouystown, George-town, Sealy unlawfully assaulted police officer Toshawna Zack and also resisted arrest and behaved disorderly in a public space.

The woman pleaded not guilty to the assault and the resisting arrest charges, for which she was granted $30,000 bail each. She, however, pleaded guilty to behaving disorderly in a public space and was fined $10,000 with an alternative of two weeks’ imprisonment if she could not pay the fine.

Sealy will make her next court appearance on May 10, 2022, in connection with the pending charges.

Meanwhile, McAndrew was charged with unlawfully assaulting police officer Shane Morris while the rank was acting in the execution of his duties. He was also charged with resisting arrest and behaving disorderly on the same date and at the same place.

He was granted $30,000 bail on each charge of assault and resisting arrest and $10,000 bail on the disorderly behaviour charge.

The matters were adjourned until May 19, 2022.
