The 21-year-old man who struck down 14-year-old Makida Quick was yesterday charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

Glenton Redman of Lot 1584 Section ‘E’ Field, Sophia, appeared at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court  before Magistrate Rochelle Liverpool where he denied the charge that was brought against him.

Redman was granted bail in the sum of $600, 000 and the matter was adjourned until June 8th, 2022.

The Guyana Police Force had reported that on Sunday April 10th, 2022 at around 12:30 hrs, at Section ‘E’ Field, Sophia, Quick was on her bicycle riding south along the eastern side of the Section ‘E’ Field, main access road, whilst Redman was said to be riding in the same direction and speeding on his motorcycle CK 7840 which he allegedly lost control of and struck the teen.

As a result of the impact, Quick was flung some distance into the air before falling into a nearby drain and Redman fell on the road.

Both were picked up in an unconscious state and transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital’s Accident and Emergency Unit where Quick was pronounced dead on arrival, and Redman regained consciousness.

The police also said that Redman was suspected to not be the holder of a provisional or rider’s licence.
