A Mon Repos woman was on Friday charged with stealing a sum of money from her place of employment.

Amrita Dharampaul, of Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, appeared before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly in a city court, where she was charged with stealing the sum of $1,745, 513 from Nextlink Communi-cation Inc.

The charge stated that between September 8th, 2021 and October 21st 2021, at Church Street, Georgetown, Dharampaul, who was employed as a clerk at the company, stole the money.

The woman pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of $200,000. The matter was adjourned until May 20, 2022.

According to the case against Dharampaul, she was designated to a system to receive payments but during the period mentioned in the charge the company recorded a reduction in funds.

Due to the reduction, an audit was conducted which revealed the shortage of $1,745, 513. Checks were then made of Dharampaul’s system, where it was observed that payments were back-dated. Surveillance footage also reportedly revealed when the woman was placing money in her jacket.
