City chamber meets Opposition Leader

A team from the  Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) yesterday met with Leader of the PNCR and Leader of the Opposition, Aubrey Norton and his delegation.

A release from the GCCI said that the meeting, which was held at Congress Place, Sophia was facilitated to engage with Norton to foster a good working relationship between the GCCI and the Opposition as the drive for increased private sector development continues.

The release said that Norton was congratulated on his ascension to his new position as Opposition Leader and as a Member of Parliament.

Initiating the dialogue was the GCCI’s President, Timothy Tucker, who emphasized that as the oldest and largest private sector organization in Guyana, the GCCI is always open to discussions with all parties. Following his introduction, areas such as the removal of trade barriers, support for micro, small and medium enterprises, increased private sector involvement in state development/affairs, the importance of specific sectors and the need for lower energy costs were highlighted.

The release said that the Opposition Leader noted that a comprehensive approach to development is necessary, while stating that he is prepared to work with the GCCI to address  the highlighted issues and have continued engagements as both parties seek amicable relations.
