Trial set for two over murder of `Perry’ Mars

Six years after being charged with the murder of retired professor Pairaudeau `Perry’ Mars, the trial of Timothy Paul Chance and Andre Benjamin is set to commence next Monday May 16th at the High Court in Demerara.  

The jury which will be hearing the case was empaneled yesterday morning before Justice Sandil Kissoon who will be presiding over the matter.

The capital indictment against the 22-year-old young men, is that they murdered Mars on May 12th, 2016 during a robbery.

They both pleaded not guilty to the charge after their arraignment yesterday.

Close to 20 civilian and police witnesses are expected to testify.

The accused are being represented by defence attorneys Ronald Daniels and Kiswana Jefford.

The State’s case will be led by Prosecutor Taneisha Saygon, in association with Abigail Gibbs.

Following the empanelment yesterday morning, Justice Kissoon informed that the trial will officially commence next Monday.
