Bachelor’s Adventure shooting victim succumbs to injuries

The investigation into a shooting at Bachelor’s Adventure, East Coast Demerara (ECD) has now shifted to murder as the victim succumbed yesterday morning to his injuries while a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).

Dead is Kevin Phillips, 44, a mason of Lot 101 Melanie Damishana, ECD.

According to police, Phillips who was shot once to the right side of his abdomen died at approximately 6.50 am yesterday in the GPH Intensive Care Unit.

Initial enquiries revealed that at about 10.20pm, Phillips was sitting on a culvert on the Bachelor’s Adventure Middle Road when he was approached by a young man.

An eyewitness told investigators that he was driving along the road when he saw the suspect run up to Phillips and point a weapon at him.

Seconds later, he heard a single loud explosion suspected to be a gunshot. The suspect then immediately fled the area west through a cross street.

The victim was immediately rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital by the eyewitness, where he underwent emergency surgery but later succumbed while in recovery.

Investigations are ongoing.
