Parent company obligated to engage union on its decision

Dear Editor,

From the account it seems the union is comfortable being kept in the dark or not totally in the loop concerning the transfer of employees to the new customer service company (SN May 16).  On the other hand good relations practices would dictate the parent company has a moral, if not legal, obligation to engage the union on the decision.  Could it possibly be because of the small number of union members, five, affected it was deemed inconsequential to engage the union?

Sincerely,

Shamshun Mohamed
