I acknowledge that I may have erred in my interpretation of Article 219 (3)

Dear Editor,

Having reflected on the matter and in consultation with two of my friends from the legal fraternity, I acknowledge that I may have erred in my interpretation of Article 219(3) of the Constitution when I stated that any withdrawals from the Consolidated Fund for the period May to August 2020 would be devoid of constitutional/legislative support.

I unreservedly apologise to the readers of our “Accountability Watch” column and more specifically to the former Minister of Finance Winston Jordan. I regret any embarrassment or hurt my statement may have caused the Former Minister and wish to assure him that it was not motivated by any malice or ill-will on my part.

Sincerely,
Anand Goolsarran
