Lethem Power Company has disconnected some residential customers despite PM’s assurance

Dear Editor,

On a recent visit to Lethem the Prime Minister declared that in order to ease the burden caused by the rising cost of living the Government would continue to subsidize electricity sold by the Lethem Power Company (LPC) to consumers and also instructed the Management of LPC not to disconnect anyone but instead work out a payment plan with defaulters. He also mentioned that business places owed large sums of money to the company.

A number of residential consumers have since been disconnected without notice and the citizens are seeking clarification from the Prime Minister on this matter more so since this is part of the plan for economic relief to citizens by the Government. At the moment it seems as either the LPC has ignored the instructions of the Prime Minister or we were told one thing by him and different directions were given to the LPC. What is certain is that an explanation is needed from the Prime Minister.

Yours faithfully,

Patrick Fitzpatrick.
