Parfait Harmonie family beaten, robbed during home invasion by gunmen

Members of a Parfait Harmonie family were beaten and robbed during a home invasion on Sunday night by three gunmen.

According to a Police statement, the robbery occurred at about 8.45 pm in the West Bank Demerara community.

The victims were identified as 46-year-old Suresh Balram, his wife Bibi Balram, 40, and two teenage girls, ages 17 and 15.

Police say the bandits held the family at gun-point and subsequently one of the perpetrators dealt Bibi Balram a hit to her face with a handgun causing her injuries. Another of the bandits also hit Suresh Balram in his head with his gun.

The family was then ordered to lie face-down on the floor. Their hands were then tied behind their backs. It was then that the perpetrators used the opportunity to ransack the house. They then fled.

The victims later managed to untie themselves. The man and his wife were taken to the West Demerara Hospital where they were treated and sent away.

The police said that the family was robbed of a number of phones, phone cards and gold jewellery.

Further investigations are ongoing, according to the police.
