The Guyanese of Indian Ancestry Association (GIAA) in association with the High Commission of India to Guyana has organised an “Indian Heritage Exposition,” which opened on Friday and is continuing until Tuesday at the Texila American University, at Providence. In a brief statement, the Indian High Commission said the exposition is depicting the important features of the historical Indian presence in Guyana over the last 180 years. It further noted that High commissioner of India Dr KJ Srinivasa stated that the exposition gives the visitors a chance to be properly informed about Indian Diaspora in Guyana, appreciate the country’s rich diverse culture and encourages them to embrace their history. “The Expo is about reconnecting with Indian culture with a goal of continuing the rebuilding of the cultural identity of Indo-Guyanese,” the High Commission statement added, while noting that with this year being the 75th year of Indian Independence (Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav), it will be organising many other events in the near future. The event is open to all general public free of cost. High Commissioner Srinivasa is seen in photo pointing to one of the exhibits on display at the exposition. (Indian High Commission photo)
