Cabbage, which is often lumped into the same category as lettuce because of their similar appearance, is actually part of the cruciferous vegetable family. Cruciferous vegetables like cabbage, kale, and broccoli are notorious for being chock-full of beneficial nutrients. If you are trying to improve your diet, cruciferous foods are a good place to start.

Is cabbage good for weight loss?

While it is not renowned in Guyana for its weight loss benefits, “the cabbage is a viable weight loss method that is very popular in Japan, China and South Korea.” It is said that through this method, you can lose more than ten pounds a month.

This weight loss method is very simple, users are just advised to eat some cabbage before meals. To be precise: eat a bit of cabbage for ten minutes before meals, chew 20 to 30 times per bite. You can then eat as usual.

The key to the pre-meal cabbage diet is the number of chews. During chewing, the movement of the jaw stimulates the satiety centre of the brain, resulting in a feeling of satiety.

Experience has shown that eating a small amount of cabbage can produce the same feeling of fullness compared to eating other vegetables. The cabbage diet doesn’t mean eating only cabbage, it’s just used to increase satiety and inhibit the intake of other foods.

Cabbage is very nutritious and has the characteristics of being low in calories, low in fat and high in fibre, which is very suitable for people who want to shed some weight.
