Husband arrested over murder of Omega Ault

Clarence Farley who had been wanted for several days in relation to the murder of his wife, Omega Ault was last evening apprehended at a hotel at No.78 Village, Corentyne, the police said.

Ault, a teacher was found dead several days ago. There had been no sign of Farley since them.

The police said that at 7.50 pm yesterday, acting on information received, Inspector Benn, Sergeant # 19186 Grant, Detective Corporal # 19334 Ramdeholl and Lance Corporal # 19186 Monroe went to Malinmar Hotel at No. 78 Village, Corriverton, Berbice where Farley, 40, was found.  He was escorted to Springlands Police Station where he was placed in custody. A wanted bulletin had been issued for him.

Ault died as a result of brain haemorrhage and multiple traumas to the head, an autopsy confirmed.

Farley is suspected to have murdered Ault sometime between May 14 and last Friday.

In a statement issued on Friday night, the police had said Kevin Ault reported to ranks at the Vreed-en-Hoop Police Station that he had been calling Omega but was not getting through to her for two weeks.

As a result, Kevin Ault said he went to her address at Crane and after calling and getting no response, he pushed open the front door to the house and was greeted  by an odour.

He then went into the front room of the house and saw the decomposing body of his sister lying motionless. The police were then alerted.

The couple shared a 3-year-old child. The police said that Farley dropped off the child at one of Omega Ault’s sisters, Tracy Ault, at her Diamond, EBD house last Wednesday and has not been seen or heard from since.

Tracy Ault had told Stabroek News that she takes care of the child from time to time. She related that after Farley did not return for the child, she didn’t sense anything was amiss and instead assumed her sister was busy.

While the police had said their enquiries revealed that the couple had been encountering marital problems, Omega Ault’s family told Stabroek News that they were not aware of her having any problems with her husband of more than 15 years.

“She is very quiet. Very, very quiet. She don’t disclose her problem to anybody…She never tell me nothing. She never give we a sign that she had problem or whatever it is. She never, never disclose that…Everybody is so shock that this happen because my brother-in-law was such a loving person but after what happen like we can’t even get a grip up to now,” Tracy Ault had previously told this newspaper.

Tracy Ault explained that Omega Ault and her husband had been married for more than 15 years and at no point during this time did her sister ever communicate to her that she was experiencing problems in her relationship.
