The CG Insurance Cricket West Indies Senior Regional Women’s tournament is set to bowl off tomorrow in Guyana after a two-year hiatus.

The six teams are all in Guyana and ready for action, but the rainy season could play a factor.

Nevertheless, Guyana will be hunting their maiden title at the event and will be coming up against defending champions, Barbados in the first round of the T20 Blaze at 14.30 hours.

Leeward Islands and Windward Islands will battle in the first encounter at 10.00 hours while Jamaica and Trinidad will lock horns under lights from 19.00 hours. All matches will be played at National Stadium, Providence.

Guyana head into the competition on the heels of competitive cricket during the senior women’s inter-county tournament and will be coming with experienced campaigners in Shemaine Campbelle, Tremayne Smartt, Erva Giddings and Plaffianna Millington. Also, since the tournament was last held, Guyana has managed to see the likes of Shabika Gajnabi, Mandy Mangru, Sheneta Grimmond, Cherry-Ann Fraser and Kaysia Schultz all break into the West Indies women’s set up.

The hosts will have the experienced duo of head coach, Julian Moore and manager, Kavita Yadram supporting them. The reigning champions will also be coming with all guns blazing especially with their captain, Hayley Matthews coming into the tournament in superb form. West Indies branded players, Shakera Selman, Kycia Knight, Aaliyah Alleyne, Snamilia Connel and Kyshona Knight are all expected to play a major role but the champions will be missing the dangerous all-rounder, Deandra Dottin.
