Duo remanded over armed robbery on Cornhill St

Two men were yesterday remanded after being charged with armed robbery.

Twenty-nine-year-old Calvin Belgrave and David Bernard, 33, were both arraigned at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court before Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus.

The charge stated that on June 5th, 2022 at Cornhill Street, Georgetown, whilst being armed with an offensive weapon, that is to say a cutlass, they robbed Patrick Boston of one cellular phone valued at $70,000 and one wallet worth $4,000, a total value of $74,000.

Although Belgrave pleaded not guilty and Bernard pleaded guilty, bail was refused and they were both remanded.

Belgrave said that he was not around at the time of the incident. Bernard said that he was under the influence of alcohol and as a result he will admit to the charge.

The men will make their next court appearance on Friday, June 10th.

The Police Prosecutor told the court that on the said date, the virtual complainant, Boston, had stepped out of his living quarters to purchase food and  was attacked by one of the men.

It was said that the accused dealt Boston several lashes to his head with the cutlass and robbed him of his cellphone.
