Providence woman jailed for three years over extortion

Princess Williams was yesterday jailed for three years over an attempt to extort the sum of $10 million from her ex-boyfriend.

She had been found guilty of the offence last month. The 20-year-old of Providence, East Bank Demerara appeared in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Rondel Weever where the sentence was handed down.

On May 6th, 2022, she was found guilty of the charge which stated that between January 4th and January 6th , 2021 at Georgetown, with intent to extort $10m from Kenrick Thomas, she threatened to accuse him of committing an offence against her.

Williams had initially appeared in court for the said matter on February 12th, 2021 where she pleaded guilty, however, she later changed her plea to not guilty and was then released on $100,000 bail.

The woman is on remand over a separate charge of escaping from the Police while being in custody for the extortion matter.
