Pre-bid meetings for the new Schoonord, West Bank Demerara to Crane, West Coast Demerara, four-lane highway, in Region Three began on Wednesday with a number of site visits with interested contractors, the CHPA said in a release.

The meeting, which was led by a senior technical team from the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CHPA), was aimed at determining means of access for contractors, logistics and traffic management.

The proposed highway, which is divided into eight lots, will run 2.4 miles (3.9 kilometres), the release noted. It is expected to reduce traffic congestion along the West Bank and West Coast Demerara corridor; while at the same time modernizing the country’s infrastructure and creating avenues for housing and commercial development.

Several other pre-bid meetings are scheduled. The deadline for the submission of bids is Wednesday, July 13, 2022.
