Driver dies after crashing into parked truck at Brickery

A 27-year-old man succumbed at a city hospital yesterday afternoon, hours after he crashed into a parked truck along the Brickery, East Bank Demerara Public Road.

Dead is Ezekiel Edmond, also known as ‘Zicky’ of Lot 249 Plantation Hope, West Coast Berbice, who was driving a truck at the time of the accident.

The police say he lost control of the vehicle.

The accident occurred around 03.10hrs. Edmond was rushed to the Diamond Hospital in an unconscious state. He was later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he succumbed around 15.00 hrs.

At the time, Edmond was the driver of motor lorry GAB 4267, which is owned by General Engineering Contracting Services.

He crashed into motor lorry GAC 1059, which is owned by a King Street, George-town resident.

Sunday Stabroek understands that police enquiries disclosed that Edmond was proceeding south along the eastern lane of the public road, allegedly at a fast rate of speed, when he lost control of the truck.

Edmond reportedly swerved and collided with the rear of GAC 1059, which was stationary on the eastern parapet of the said road.
