A Guyanese man who is wanted by the US government over drug trafficking has been arrested in Kenya.

Richard Spencer was detained soon after landing at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Thursday, according to a report by the Kenya Broadcasting Company. He had arrived from Sao Paulo, Brazil.

He was deported on Saturday night to the US, according to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI).

Spencer is wanted by the US government after he allegedly smuggled 1.5 kilograms of cocaine via luggage in 2015.

He was arrested in 2016 and charged with the offence but released on pre-trial conditions. Spencer reportedly violated the conditions and a warrant of arrest was issued on March 17, 2017. Again, he violated pre-trial conditions of non-appearance and change of address without reporting and another warrant was issued on March 19, 2018.

He remained on the run until his arrest on Friday morning.
