GTT in canned food drive for charity

Telecoms company GTT, and its brand, GTT Business Solutions, have partnered with Sunshine Entertainment in a charity promotion to accumulate and distribute canned food items to various charitable organizations and vulnerable persons.

A press release yesterday from GTT stated that the charity promotion titled, GTT Business Solutions CANFETE, will take the form of two mega concerts in September. Prior to the concert tickets for the event will cost an exchange of three cans of food. The release noted that at the conclusion of both concerts, all canned food donated will be distributed to local charities and families most in need. The concerts, according to GTT, will feature Trinidad & Tobago chutney and soca stars Drupatee, Adesh Samaroo, Chris Garcia and Olatunji.

At the launch at GTT’s 79 Brickdam headquarters, GTT Business Solutions Senior Manager SMB, Technical and Cloud Delivery, Tanya Wilcott, said that research shows that food insecurity causes delayed development in young children. She added that the initiative proposes in part, a mutually beneficial solution to overcoming this challenge since patrons will be rewarded for charity and goodwill, while vulnerable families and children nutrient uptakes will be reinforced with the donations they will receive. “At GTT Business Solutions, we believe that together we will rise smarter and we’ve promised and committed to strengthening our community; a meal could literally provide strength to those who need it the most”. The release identified the charitable organizations which are to benefit from this cause and they include:  the Amerindian People’s Association, St. Francis Community Developers, Guyana Girl Guides Association, Guyana Red Cross Society, Georgetown Legal Aid Clinic, Comforting Hearts and the South Rupununi District Council.

Representative of Sunshine Entertainment, Sophia Dolphin of GLO-SEE marketing, said that the event is anticipated to raise awareness and support for charity. “We expect to attract much support considering its nature, this is a different concept that gives every patron a sense of involvement, knowing that their donation is going back to a worthy cause. We also hope to encourage patrons to continue to donate to charitable causes”. The first concert will be on Friday, September 2 at the Everest Cricket Ground, Georgetown and the second on Saturday, September 3, at the Canje Ground, Berbice. No cans will be exchanged for tickets at the gates on the nights of the event. It is also requested that patrons get their tickets early at soon-to-be-published locations.
