Body of man found in Sandy Babb St building

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 47-year-old man whose body was discovered by security guards on Monday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Arvinder Singh of Happy Acres, East Coast Demerara.

Police in a brief statement yesterday said the man’s body was found in a building on Sandy Babb Street, Kitty, Georgetown.

According to police investigations, Singh who was unemployed, was reportedly sleeping at the location for about two weeks now. He occupied a wooden bed on the lower flat of the unfinished five-storey concrete structure.

One of the security guards, a 31-year-old male of Sandy Babb Street, said he last saw the man alive around 4 am on Monday when he collected his cellphone, filled his water bottle and went back to bed.

Another guard, a 51-year-old female of Industry, ECD reported for work at the location at about 6 am on the said date and related that throughout the day she saw the man lying on his bed.

About 6:30 pm, when she was relieved  by the 37-year-old guard, she informed him that Singh had been in his bed all day.

A report was subsequently made at the Kitty Police Station and Emergency Medical Technicians from the Central Fire Service were informed and visited the scene, where the man was pronounced dead.

The body was further examined and no mark of violence was seen. The man’s body is presently at the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination.
