Chain snatcher gets 2-year sentence

A two-year sentence was on Friday handed down to a man who admitted to snatching a woman’s gold chain and assaulting her during the attack.

Sherman Ken, of Lot 1990 Kaneville, Grove, East Bank Demerara (EBD), appeared before Georgetown Magistrate Leron Daly, who read the charge to him.

According to the charge, Ken on June 21, 2022, at Brickdam, robbed Farida Ali of a gold chain, with pendent, valued $28,000.

According to the facts presented to court, on the day in question the victim was walking along Brickdam when Ken suddenly appeared, pushed her, and snatched her gold chain. The court heard that that he also punched the woman about her body and then made good his escape on foot.

Ali, however, immediately raised an alarm and city police managed to apprehend Ken. A search was then conducted on his person and the stolen chain was recovered.
