Former West Indies captain, Stafanie Taylor, will turn out for the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the inaugural women’s Caribbean League, a stint she is looking forward to.

In an exclusive interview with this publication, the all-rounder said, “It feels encouraging to see a new women’s league being introduced. ”Hopefully this first staging will be great and it will grow in years to come.”

This is the first franchise style women’s tournament in the Region with three teams, namely Guyana Amazon Warriors, Barbados Royals and Trinbago Knight Riders. 33 of the best female players from the Region are spread equally across the franchises.

The Jamaican, who is regarded by many as the all-time greatest female cricketer from West Indies explained that this sort of tournaments are integral to the development of young players.

She reckoned, “It should be really instrumental in developing the young players. The fact that they get to play among other international players will serve to improve the level of cricket and encourage young players to continue in the sport.”

Commenting on the Warriors unit, Taylor said, “I think the GAW has a good group of girls and I look forward to working with them all. The energy is already electric among all the players invited to play and I just know it will be even better when we get together as a squad.”

From a personal perspective, the all-rounder noted that she is always honoured to lead a team as her main objective is to lead the team well, get the young players involved, motivate them and hopefully have a successful tournament.

Taylor highlighted her personal goal is to have a good Caribbean Premier League and improve her cricket which will in turn combine with her desire to come out and do her very best for the Warriors.

“I appreciate the support from the franchise and now I just want to show that appreciation by doing well,” she said.

The tournament will bowl off on August 30.
