Three held at Stewartville over suspected trafficking of Venezuelans

The Ministry of Home Affairs on Monday said that three persons were held for questioning at Stewartville, West Coast Demerara (WCD) over the suspected trafficking of Venezuelans.

A release from the ministry said that on Saturday, June 25th between 1 am and 3 am, the Guyana Police Force conducted a cordon and search exercise at Club Plan B located at 335 Public Road, Stewartville.

During this operation, fifteen female foreigners were discovered and interviewed. It is suspected that all of the females are Venezuelan nationals.

An investigation was then launched into alleged acts of trafficking in persons.

The suspects were detained by the police for questioning.

The Ministry says it will provide further updates as they become available. It added that the  police will continue to monitor these establishments.
