A car was destroyed in a fire that is suspected to have been maliciously set on Friday night and the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) has said that the owner has refused to provide any information on the incident.

In a statement, the GFS said it received a call at 20:17 hrs on Friday night and was alerted to a fire at Lot 162 Hibiscus Avenue, AA Eccles, East Bank Demerara.

As a result, a water tender was immediately dispatched to the location from the Eccles Fire Station.

Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters observed that a vehicle was on fire and they quickly sprang into action and tried to extinguish the blaze.

The GFS noted that despite their efforts, the vehicle and all its contents were eventually destroyed.

In addition, the GFS said that when the presumed owner\driver of the vehicle was questioned, they were uncooperative and had refused to provide firefighters with information as it relates to the vehicle and the fire.

The individual also pointed out that they were not the one who called or reported the fire to the GFS.

As a result, the matter was transferred to the police for further investigations to be done, the GFS said.
