The Guyana under-19 girls tasted their first defeat in the Cricket West Indies youth rising stars T20 championship, falling 18 runs short of Jamaica girls in round three on Friday.

Guyana won the toss and inserted Jamaica who managed 115 for three from their full quota. Guyana however, were set a revised target of 106 in 18 overs but could only scamper to 87 for four by the time their overs expired.

Jamaica’s Lena Scott was the principal batter, hitting six boundaries during her 56-ball innings which saw her racing to 43 before being trapped leg before wicket to Realeanna Grimmond.

Scott shared in a 44-run partnership with Tasha-Gaye Gordon who was forced to retire not out on 12 from 27 balls after colliding with the Guyanese wicketkeeper just as rain stopped play with Jamaica on 56 for one after 11 overs.

Scott was then joined by Kate Wilmott and shared a 41-run partnership. Wilmott ended with a ball-a-run 29, highlighted by two boundaries.

Extras accounted for 24 towards the target. Grimmond, Cyanna Retemiah and Lavina Ragobeer picked up one wicket each.

Jamaica also gifted 24 extras as Naomi Barkoye looked set to lead Guyana to their third win with 27 from 44 balls, featuring three boundaries. Walmott returned to remove Grimmond in the first over as skipper, Ashmini Munisar joined Barkoye to put on 31 for the second wicket. Munisar made 11 from 23 balls before being bowled by Brianna Plummer. Sarah Amin was left stranded on 12 from 26 balls while Niveena Ramnauth ended on nine not out.
