Paul DeNobrega edged Briton John in an exciting photo finish to earn the spoils of the Ballot Box 55-mile road race yesterday in Berbice.

The Team Evolution standout stopped the clock in a brisk 2:10.50s for the event which pedaled off in front of Freedom House in New Amsterdam, proceeded to Corriverton and returned to the No. 63 Village for the finish.

The 28-year-old wheelsman, who was also the winner when the event was last staged in 2014, showed tenacity and grit throughout the grueling, sun baked trek then displayed his sprinting ability on the home straight by surging ahead of John and other breakaway mates.

Christopher Griffith, Curtis Dey, Andre Green and Mario Washington completed the top six rewarding positions.

Washington, the first junior to finish the event, led Aaron Newton and Alex Leung in that category.

Clavecia Spencer and Marica Dick were the top two females, while Talim Shaw and Ian Jackson finished as the first two veterans over 50.

Differently-abled, Walter Grant-Stuart, Paul Choowenam and Junior Niles were the top three veterans U-50.

The fixture attracted in excess of 30 starters. It is one of the activities used to commemorate the death anniversary of Parmanand Bholonauth and Jagan Ramessar who were shot and killed at No. 63 Village almost 50 years ago.
