GuySuCo moving swiftly ahead with completion of rehab works to Rose Hall Estate Factory

Dear Editor,

GuySuCo notes the malicious dissemination of incorrect information by the Village Voice online media platform via their Facebook page on Sunday 17th July, 2022 and rejects this reckless attempt to misrepresent the truth.  No one at GuySuCo was contacted to verify the information, but yet the Village Voice rushed to project an image of the roof being fully completed and leaking.

The truth illustrates that this leaking roof was inherited in September 2020 when the new management came to the job, and repair works are currently being done in phases.

GuySuCo is moving swiftly ahead with the completion of rehabilitation works to the Rose Hall Estate Factory to ensure that this estate is fully operable in late 2023. The rehabilitation plan is to first replace all unserviceable zinc sheets, purlin, angle iron as well as the supporting structure before the opening of the estate and this is costing the 2022 National Budget more than G$80 million. The first phase of this plan saw the completion of the “Process House Roof” some three weeks ago.  The next phase is to complete the Boiler, Mill and Pre-Milling roofs.  These were the sections caught in the video put out by the Village Voice and were only awarded by NPTAB some weeks ago.  The contract was signed in late June and the contractors stated they will commence work during the 1st week of August 2022.  No mobilization funds were released to the contractors as they are still in the process of mobilizing their equipment.

The estate, which was closed by the previous administration, was left to rot with weeds growing in all buildings, pumps, factory equipment and the factory roof was left to rot thus leaving the factory in a state of total disrepair. Maybe, the Village Voice should have sought clarification from the previous Board headed by Dr Clive Thomas or Mr. Calvin London who controlled this Estate as the Head of NICIL as to why under their watch this roof was left in such a condition.  The subterfuge and deception is clear as day and we call on the Editor of the Village Voice to retract these untruths.

The Corporation encourages all media houses to practice good journalism by first seeking clarity on all matters and the Communication Team stands ready to answer any reasonable enquiry into the affairs of this state-owned entity.

Yours faithfully,
