Dear Editor,
I am an oversees based Guyanese. However despite living and working overseas, I continue to pay keen attention to all that are happening in my beautiful country. One issue that made the news recently regards a video on social media and Sasenarine Singh’s attempts to deviate from the real issue of sugar shortage and people lamenting their frustration about their plight in another disgusting game of politics. When will we stop fooling the people? I think our people are already getting wiser and will continue to lament their frustrations on relevant issues. By now, I think that Guyana is not making any profit from sugar and this has to do with Guyana not producing enough sugar and we don’t have large markets to sell our produce. So in other words sugar is not doing good business, period.
Another thing I am not amused at is Singh’s new position as Chief Executive Officer of the Guyana Sugar Cooperation. That clearly speaks of his loyalty to the PPP party. What I am concerned about is that these guys who are appointed as managers and CEO’s are receiving fat salaries and incentives just to hold a title while industry is almost close to dying. It is sad. The cost of living is rising, the poorer classes continue to suffer and these CEO’s are living the life. Guyana would never be able to rise unless we come together as Guyanese with one voice and stand up for a united cause. Racism must go and unity must be our ceremony.
