Shutting down issues of grave importance keeps hurting Guyana’s growth and maturity

Dear Editor,

I read an article recently on a well reliable online news source regarding a motion which was filed by the Leader of the Opposition, Aubrey Norton. The motion had to do with corruption allegations against the Vice President, Bharrat Jagdeo. Again, while I am not surprised by Manzoor Nadir’s reaction to this very serious issue, I am however concerned at the way in which an issue as such was treated. Sometimes I wonder if people placed in such position even realize the position they were given, and likewise the responsibility that position entails because if Nadir really realize his position, and its function, he would have never ever be quick to speak. It is a total insult to all Guyanese, both the intelligent and the not so smart.

We keep shutting down issues of grave importance and this is what keeps hurting Guyana’s growth and maturity. We need to get serious because if we keep playing politics we would remain a backward state. The allegations leveled against Jagdeo are of a serious nature.

Sincerely,

Yannason Duncan
