Guy U19 suffer first loss

Guyana were subjected to a nine-wicket loss to Jamaica as the Cricket West Indies under-19 regional tournament continued yesterday in Trinidad.

The third-round clash saw Jamaica winning the toss and inserting Guyana who were routed for 112 in 35.3 overs of their 50-over quota. Jamaica then raced to 116 for one in just 13.5 overs.

Anthony Khan faced 61 balls during his innings and scored eight runs while Rampertab Ramnauth and Romeo Deonarain made one run each.

Alvin Mohabir top scored with 27 from 39 balls while Mavendra Dindyal and Zachary Jodah chipped in with 15 runs each as no other batsman reached double figures. Extras also contributed 26 towards the target.

Tamarie Redwood was the pick of the bowlers with 3-27 while Marlon Williams bagged 2-10.

In the chase, Adrian Weir piloted Jamaica with 52 not out. His 41-ball innings featured five fours and four sixes. He shared an unfinished second-wicket partnership of 110 with Jordan Johnson. Johnson ended on 50 not out from 39 balls after hitting nine fours and one six.

The tournament will now shift to a T20 format with Guyana set to play their two final matches against Leeward Islands and Windward Islands.

Guyana have already secured wins over Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago.
