Hand signal launched for trafficking victims to seek help

In observation of World Day Against Trafficking in Persons (TIP), the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security yesterday held a walk/rally and launched the TIP hand signal.

In a statement issued on its Facebook page, the Ministry said that during the rally participants held a moment of silent prayers for victims of human trafficking.

The walk commenced on the Church Street, Georgetown and ended on Main Street. It was followed by a rally and exhibition.

The statement said that Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Dr Vindhya Persaud also launched the TIP signal, which persons being trafficked can use as a call for help.

Persaud was joined by First Lady Arya Ali and members of the diplomatic corps.

World Day Against Trafficking in Persons is observed today under the theme “The Use and Abuse of Technology”.
