Investigators have recovered the cell phone belonging to murdered Canje businessman, Vickram Seubarran at the prime suspect’s house located in Betsy Ground, East Canje Berbice.

According to a police source, a taxi driver and another person were arrested on Monday for questioning hours after the discovery was made. The taxi driver reportedly identified the prime suspect as the last person to be dropped off at the house of the businessman late Sunday afternoon.

Police then arrested the prime suspect, said to be in his twenties, who shortly after confessed to fatally stabbing the businessman.

As of yesterday afternoon only the prime suspect remained in police custody, and arrangements are being made to have a post-mortem examination carried out today.

Seubarran, 53, of Lot 135 Number Two Village, East Canje Berbice, owner of Universal DVD Club and Stationery Solutions located in New Amsterdam, was found dead in a pool of blood in front of the sink in his kitchen located in the lower flat of his house around 6 am on Sunday.

The blade of the murder weapon was left stuck in his back as the handle seemingly broke off during the attack. There were also signs of a struggle in the businessman’s bedroom located next to the kitchen in the lower flat.  The mirror on his wardrobe had shattered.

His brother, Glen Seubarran yesterday stated that the cell phone recovered was identified to be his brother’s.

According to the brother, they are aware that the suspect was known to their brother. He noted that while they did not immediately know who committed the act they had considered that it must have been someone known to their brother since the dogs in the yard did not raise any alarm when the suspect entered and later exited.

He also expressed his gratitude to investigators for ensuring that the suspect was quickly nabbed, adding, that justice can now be served for his brother’s death.
