A 19-year-old woman and four men were on Monday arrested after allegedly being found with $1.5 million worth of cocaine.

According to the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU), officers conducted an operation on August 8th, at a Norton Street residence where former drug accused, Andre Clarke, is said to have been residing. A search of the premises led to the discovery of four parcels of cocaine.

Clarke along with four other persons – Akeem Lashley; 26, Dion Bascom, 33, Rodwell George, 54, and Serena Mentus, 19 – were arrested and escorted to the CANU headquarters. The substance found in their possession tested positive for cocaine and weighed approximately 1.5 kilogrammes, which has an estimated street value of $1.5 million.

CANU said that Clarke was charged with narcotics trafficking in 2011 after CANU ranks conducted an operation at his home and found 590 grammes of cocaine buried in his yard. He was charged but based on advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions, the matter was dismissed. However, Clarke remained a person of interest and investigation since then and this is what led to his and alleged co-conspirers’ arrest on Monday, CANU said.

Investigations are ongoing.
