Chair of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), retired Justice Claudette Singh today said that the Commission is aiming for the hosting of the constitutionally overdue Local Government Election(LGE) by the end of November.

Justice Singh made the statement while responding to questions from the press on the sidelines of the swearing in of Clement Rohee as the government’s new appointee on the Commission. The Chair said that the Commission currently has a work programme in place and is aiming for the hosting of the elections late November or  early December.

The statement comes amid public concerns that GECOM has been dilatory in its preparations for the polls.
