Girl, 17, held after striking miner with beer bottle

A 17-year-old bartender was on Saturday arrested after she stabbed a miner who had been involved in a scuffle with her sister.

According to the Police, at 8 pm, Primo Sargon, 31, a miner from Philippi Village in the Upper Mazaruni, was stabbed by the bartender at Pompey’s Shop in Imbaimadai Landing in the Upper Mazaruni River.

Police investigations revealed that the victim and the suspect’s sister had a scuffle due to a misunderstanding. The bartender who was a witness to the scuffle armed herself with a beer bottle and dealt the man a lash to his head.

The victim was escorted to the Imbaimadai Health Centre where he was seen and examined. He is in a stable condition.
