The 14th running of the Guyana Cup staged at the overflowing Rising Sun Turf Club on Sunday was labelled “a tremendous success” by organizers and patrons.
According to chief organizer, Nazrudeen Mohamed Jr., he was amazed by the turnout of turfites who flocked to the venue for the return of the fixture after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic. Mohamed stated that he was excited that the ‘Sport of Kings’ is back and that plans are already in the pipeline for making the 2023 event even bigger than this year which was dubbed ‘the best ever’.
On the bone dry, well-prepared West Coast Berbice track, dark-bay colt, Alado galloped away with the spoils of the feature Guyana Cup one-mile race.
With champion jockey, Colin Ross on the saddle, the Master Z owned steed, drew off on the final turn ahead of Wild Texas Tom, Our Stuie and Everesting and cashed in on the winner’s take.
