Dear Editor,
Recently I noticed that the potholes on the western half of Sixth Street, Cummings Lodge were filled. You will recall that I wrote more than once in this Column, as well as Stabroek News doing a follow up report, all in an attempt to urge the Government to do their lawful duty and fix this street so that hundreds of residents of our village and Industry, two of their strongholds, will stop being inconvenienced. The Minister of Local Government, Nigel Dharamlall, lives on this half of the street which in no suggests that he orchestrated these works.
Editor, on March 02, 2020 I placed four x’s next to the Cup (one Proxy) and with the abundance of money at the Government’s disposal, I thought Guyana would have been a better place to live in by now. I am disappointed thus far since it is common knowledge that all across the country the following are prevalent:-
– High Cost of Living.
– High Unemployment.
– Hundreds of Potholes.
– Traffic Chaos.
– Crime.
Editor, nowhere in the state media would you find a meaningful article about any of the above. Thanks to Stabroek News and others for keeping us grounded in reality in highlighting the plight of the ordinary people. The few Government outreaches so far have revealed numerous complaints by residents and with this initiative moving at a snail’s pace one can imagine what percentage of the population will be given a chance to voice their concerns by 2025.
Anyhow the PPP are experts since 1992 in making some of their supporters happy, and with the use of the State Media keeps the rest hopeful. When this Government starts to create new Agencies and initiatives to directly assist the ordinary people of this country and stop with the “Ministers only can help” policy that currently exists, only then we will see an improvement in this regard.
