The Ministry of Labour says it has begun investigations into the workplace fatality which occurred at Gafsons Industries Limited, Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara yesterday.
Yesterday afternoon, Occupational Safety and Health Officer Geetanjali Sookhi commenced an investigation into the accident which caused the death of Cindy Jattan who was employed as a delivery clerk with the company.
In a statement, the ministry said that a visit was made to the site and the investigations revealed that the deceased was fatally injured when a wooden rack which was used as storage for materials and equipment collapsed and pinned her while she was working.
In extending condolences to the relatives, colleagues and friends of the deceased. Minister of Labour, Joseph Hamilton is once again reminding all employers and workers of the need for good workplace safety and health practices on the job so that everyone can return safely to their families at the end of the workday.
Investigations are continuing and another visit was gone made to the accident site today.
