Two former Gafsons employees charged with theft from company

Two former employees of Gafsons Industries Limited have been released on $150,000 bail each after they denied stealing air conditioning units from the company and conspiring to defraud it.

Komalram Persaud, 25, a bus driver of Lot 471 Section ‘C’, Block ‘Y’, Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara, and 29-year-old Robin Singh, unemployed, of Lot 129D Grove Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, were yesterday taken before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court, where they were jointly charged with larceny of clerk or servant and forgery with intent to defraud.

It is alleged that between January 1, 2021 and January 31, 2021, at McDoom, East Bank Demerara, while being employees of Gafsons Industries Limited, they stole two air conditioning units valued $273,186.18, property of Gafsons Industries Limited. It is also alleged that between January 1, 2021 and January 31, 2021, at McDoom, with intent to defraud, they conspired with each other to forge a document claiming to be from Gafsons Industries Limited. 

The two men entered not-guilty pleas after the charges were read to them. They were each, granted bail at a sum of $150,000. The matter was adjourned until August 11.
