Kimbia fight leaves one dead, another injured

A fight at Kimbia, Berbice River during the wee hours today has left one man dead and his younger cousin seriously injured.

According to information gathered, the deceased, Selman King, 23, of Wiruni, Upper Berbice River, and his cousin, Shane Osborne, 18, attended a wedding at Kimbia, Berbice River yesterday where the incident occurred.

Stabroek News was told that following the wedding the men proceeded to a location where they were imbibing with some persons. However, around 3 this morning, King and the suspect were engaged in a heated argument reportedly over the ownership of a cutlass.

Persons reported that Osborne attempt to quell the situation, but the suspect then turned his attention to him using the cutlass to deal him two chop wounds.

At that stage, King intervened and he was also attacked and chopped.

King and Osborne were both brought out to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where King was pronounced dead on arrival.

Osborne who suffered  serious chops to his hand and face is undergoing surgery at the hospital.

Police have since launched an investigation and are on the hunt for the suspect.
