Body found of Corentyne man believed struck by lightning

The body of the Corentyne fisherman who went missing during the wee hours of Friday after he was reportedly struck by lightning was yesterday discovered along the Mahaica foreshore.

The deceased, Hemnarine Chandradeo also known as ‘Ravin’, 28, of Fyrish Village, Corentyne, his brother, Navindra Chandradeo, and another fisherman identified as Romel were on the boat at the time of the incident aback Albion Village.

Chandradeo’s mother, Kamla Chandradeo had told Stabroek News that Navindra informed her that they were on the boat during Friday morning when lightning struck. He reported that he and his brother were at the back of the boat pulling up their second catch when Hemnarine was struck and pitched overboard.

Jameela Cyril, 25, last evening confirmed that her husband’s body had been found, noting, that the body was positively identified by her cousin. She relayed that the body was discovered by some fishermen. According to the woman, fishermen along the Corentyne and in Region Five were alerted to be on the lookout for the man’s body following the incident.

The couple has two daughters ages 6 and 2.
