A labourer will now spend the next 48 months behind bars after he pleaded guilty to a break and enter charge.

27-year-old Carlos Hackett of Little Diamond, East Bank Demerara (EBD) was arrested last Sunday and taken before the court on Tuesday for break and enter and larceny, contrary to Section 229 (a) of the Criminal Law (offences) Act, chapter 8:01 on the dwelling of 38-year-old Carlene Singh, a Police Constable.

The unrepresented Hackett appeared at the Diamond/Grove Magistrate’s Court before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman, who read the charge to him.

The Administration of Justice Act (AJA) was applied and the defendant pleaded guilty to the offence. As a result, he was sentenced to 48 months imprisonment.
