One of the saddest days in global sports

Dear Editor,

The Olympic Games is the highest sport event there is and it is an event where the world reaches on one circuit to compete in many sports disciplines against each other…Medals are earned and one’s participation equals medals earned…New Friendships are born among athletes and its always breathtaking to witness athletes embracing each other from different countries after an event or when on a podium…

Many may not know or remember 50 years ago when tragedy struck at the 1972 Munich Olympic Games on September 5 and 11 Israeli athletes were kidnapped and died by the hands of Palestinian terrorists. It is one of the saddest day of global sports and such incident must never repeat itself. We must continue at all cost to uphold the motto of the Olympic Games and showcase compassion among ourselves in strengthening relationships.

Having a small stamp collection, I was fortunate over the years to have acquired a Guyana Memory Issue Sheet Stamps of the 1972 Munich Olympic Games where it highlights the images of the 11 Israeli athletes and this, I share with everyone.

Sincerely,
