Man for trial over 2017 bus park murder

The trial of Wayne Gilbert for the 2017 murder of Rawle Rodrigues is set to commence on Monday September 12th before Justice Sandil Kissoon at the High Court in Demerara.

A jury was empaneled yesterday morning to hear the case presented by the prosecution against Gilbert, which alleges that he, in the company of others, murdered Rodrigues on January 20th, 2017 during the course of a robbery. The incident occurred at the bus park on Croal Street.

Gilbert called “Nervous” pleaded not guilty to the capital charge when it was read to him.

State counsel Muntaz Ali will be calling just about a dozen witnesses.

Gilbert is being represented by defence attorney Stanley Moore.

On the day in question, Rodrigues, 43, formerly of 64, Leopold Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown, was reported to have sustained injuries in the attack.

He was  rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he succumbed.
