Brisport-Luke strikes gold at powerlifting c/ships

Guyana’s four-member outfit which competed at the FESUPO Powerlifting and Bench Press Championship which concluded yesterday in Brazil will return home with precious metal.  

According to reports from the Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation, Keisha Abrigo, Franklin Brisport-Luke, Leroy Trotman and Gordon Spencer were podium dwellers at the event.

Brisport-Luke, snared a gold medal, Trotman finished with a silver and Abrigo, lifting in the 69kg open class, earned a bronze medal. Spencer’s official results were still unknown up to press time.

Brisport-Luke, lifting in the 66kg Masters 2 category, benched 62.5kg. He had a best squat of 110kg and deadlift 125kg.

Trotman, lifting in the 93kg Open Classic had a best squat of 230kg, a best bench 135kg and a deadlift of 285kg, all personal records.

He earned a silver overall and gold in the deadlift in the competitive class which had five lifters. 

The long time member of Team RipHIT strength and conditioning system who is coached by Martin Webster, came in as the underdog but after his third attempt on the squat, the fight was on for gold. However, it wasn’t meant to be and he secured silver after his second attempt in the deadlift of 285kg.

Leroy Trotman finished with a silver and gold in the deadlift in the competitive 93kg class which had five lifters.

 Reports further stated that Abrigo, squatted 155kg, benched 67.5kg and deadlifted 182.5kg. Stabroek Sport will keep readers updated on Spencer’s results.
