Man on trial over murder of Kaneville machine operator

The trial of Rayon Carter for the 2018 murder of former Kaneville machine operator, Ishwar Ramanah, is underway before Justice Jo-Ann Barlow and a jury at the High Court in Demerara.

The 12-member jury panel hearing the case was selected on Tuesday morning.

The capital indictment against Carter is that he murdered Ramanah on January 13th, 2018, at Kaneville, East Bank Demerara (EBD) during the course or furtherance of a robbery.

The accused has denied the charge.

He is being represented by defence attorney Konyo Sandiford while the prosecution’s case is being led by state counsel Latifah Elliot, who will be calling just over a dozen witnesses to the stand.

Ramanah, called ‘Jack,’ formerly of Lot 624 Macaw Drive, Kaneville, EBD, was shot in the abdomen during a robbery the police had said.
