Third GuyOil/Tradewind Tankers football tourney kicks off today

The third edition of the prestigious GuyOil/Tradewind Tankers Secondary Schools Football League will officially commence today at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue, Georgetown, with four fixtures.

In the opening match at 12.00 hours, North Ruimveldt opposes Cummings Lodge while Christianburg/Wismar engages West Ruimveldt from 13.30 hours, and Golden Grove tackles Friendship at 15.00 hours. In the final match, Dolphin Secondary takes aim at President’s College from 16.30 hours.

All matches will be 70 minutes in duration during the one-round championship. Prior to the start of the aforementioned tournament, the official March Past will be conducted.

Troy Mendonca, Co-Director of event coordinators, the Petra Organization, declared that the tournament structure is geared toward the development of players.

The eventual winner of the tournament will receive $500,000 for a school project and the championship trophy. The second, third, and fourth place finishers will pocket $300,000, $200,000, and $100,000 respectively towards an initiative.

On the individual side, awards will also be presented for the most valuable player, highest goal scorer, and best goalkeeper. The top two finishers in the event will qualify for the Goodwill International Championship.
