The Insurance Institute of Guyana (IIG) recently conducted a motor insurance claims fraud course in collaboration with Guyanese born Cecil Jaipaul of Jaipaul Consulting, based in Toronto, Canada.

According to an IIG press release, although motor insurance fraud is not new to Guyana, the experience of local claims practitioners suggested that its gaining traction, and new innovative ways are being employed to make fraudulent motor insurance claims.

The release said topics covered during the course included motor insurance policy coverage, identifying red flags and fraud indicators, interviewing techniques, and understanding jurisprudence in Guyana and the Caribbean relating to the defence of suspicious and fraudulent motor claims.
