CANU seizes quantity of cannabis during East Canje, Berbice operation

Over 47 kilogrammes of narcotics was seized by ranks of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) and a Sheet Anchor resident arrested, during an East Canje, Berbice operation.

CANU in a statement issued yesterday stated that the operation occurred on Friday last at Sheet Anchor Village. In the midst of the operation, officers intercepted 31-year-old Oneil Lampkin, of Lot 16 Sheet Anchor, East Canje, Berbice, under the Canje Bridge with a small quantity of suspected cannabis in his possession.

The narcotics seized by CANU

He was briefly interrogated and was subsequently escorted to his home. There officers conducted a search of the property and the surrounding bushes. It was while searching the surrounding bushes that the officers discovered two large parcels containing suspected cannabis.

The suspected narcotics along with Lampkin, who was arrested, were escorted to CANU headquarters.

The seized substance tested positive for cannabis. The narcotics found in Lampkin’s possession had a total weight of 18.3 grammes, and the quantity of narcotics discovered near his home had a total weight 47.5 kilogrammes.
